Student opportunities and activities

At Glossodia Public School, we offer a variety of programs in the classroom and across the school to help students build new skills, make friends and explore new interests.

Our programs may include:

• School sport, athletics and inter-school competitions

DANCE

At Glossodia PS, we are proud to offer a wide range of performing arts opportunities for our students from Kindergarten to Year 6.

Our dance program  is open to all students through an audition process. Successful students are invited to join one of our dance groups, where a small fee is charged to cover the cost of costumes and instruction. We run several groups, including competition teams selected by our specialist dance teacher, which represent the school at external events. In addition, we offer non-competition dance groups that allow students to experience the joy of performance. These groups showcase their talents at school events throughout the year.

Alongside dance, students can also join our choir groups. We run a K–2 Choir  and a Years 3–6 Choir, both of which rehearse once a week during lunchtime. These choirs regularly perform at school events, giving students the opportunity to share their love of music with our community.

Through these programs, Glossodia PS provides students with creative pathways to build confidence, teamwork, and performance skills while celebrating their talents.

Student leadership

Student leadership helps young people find their voices, participate in decision-making, and understand their rights and responsibilities as active citizens. It helps students have a real impact on their learning and school environment and prepares them to participate meaningfully in their community.

Students can be leaders in the classroom, through their actions in the playground, through their support for others, or their involvement in academic, sporting, cultural or local community events or projects.

Our school offers Year 6 students the opportunity to be elected as a member of our School Parliament Leadership Program.  When in Year 5, students nominate their interest in becoming a leader, present their speech to Year 2 - 5 students regarding their skills and dedication to supporting the school. They also meet with the principal to discuss which Minister Portfolio they are interested in if elected by their peers.

• Deputy Prime Minister
• Education Minister
• Sport Minister
• Communication and Community Minister
• Environment Minister
• Welfare Minister
• Science and Technology Minister
• Library Minister
• Aboriginal Minister

Once elected they are allocated a Patron who works with them all year to ensure they are fulfilling their role and responsibilities, initiate initiatives and write speeches.

This program allows students to feel empowered to have a voice in the decisions that take place in our school.
